Review If you are looking for a detailed book about playing the 3-4-3 formation with a zone midfield and backs- this is IT. Lucchesi covers just about everything you want with detailed diagrams, clear descriptions of each players role, and a detailed list of options for each position. His offensive schemes are broken down into "build up phase" and "final touch phase" which makes digesting the information easier. He also lays out the defensive scheme with the considerations of players in a zonal system. Unfortunately, the biggest drawback to this book is that it lacks any variations to the flat middle and flat backs. It would have been really nice to learn some of the subtle adjustments that can be made to compensate for a weakness or to neutralize a strength. I look at this book as an "Idea Book" that is best used to a create discussion among coaches to add nuances to the basic formation. Think of it as a "white paper" on the 3-4-3, which should be read by coaches that have backgrounds in various formations and are capable of taking the base concept and expanding on it to make it into their own.
